If the fire roasts you when your crystal count is zero, there's a hero's funeral in your immediate future. As long as you have at least one crystal, you cannot be killed. ![]() These crystals operate not entirely unlike the rings in Sonic the Hedgehog. To save a victim, you use crystals to warp them to safety. (What did you expect from Sonic Team? Of course the arsonists of the future are going to be a little silly.) While fighting the fires, you must also rescue trapped civilians. The main enemy in each stage is the inferno, but there are other hazards to look out for such as protection measures, and each stage ends with a boss battle, such as a fire-spurting flower. ![]() As one of the fire fighters, you will battle blazes in an underwater base, a space warehouse, and an orbital station. In Burning Rangers, you are dispatched to four different emergencies around the galaxy. The titular Burning Rangers are a team of sci-fi firefighters. With this tech foundation, Sonic Team crafted a wholly competent (but somewhat workmanlike, as the Saturn was not as good at 3D as the PSone or N64) action-adventure game, elevated by its inventive premise and interesting atmosphere. Sonic Team used the NiGHTS engine as a base for Burning Rangers, which remains one of the strongest looking Saturn games of the entire library. Burning Rangers, one of the final Saturn games, was developed by Sonic Team.
